Golden Trees

23 Oct

Autumn is such a beautiful season when the sun shines.  The colours of the trees are spectacular and we have been blessed with some perfect Autumnal days, perfect for sweeping up the crispy crunchy leaves and perfect for long walks with a little dog……I don’t have a little dog but I do have a lovely Hobbs cream long sleeved shirt with the cutest little dog print.  They call it the Lulu shirt so I’m guessing the little dog must be called Lulu! Here is a close up of the adorable little dogs:-

The cutest little dogs

I am not feeling good about myself at the moment as my hair has been falling out in handfuls and is not looking good.  I am taking hair supplements and have read that this can happen following an operation so I am hoping this is just temporary.  I would love to have my colour redone but don’t think this would be a wise move at the moment.  My outfit in this blog is my Hobbs shirt (as above) with some brown chino trousers (New Look) and navy blue flecked crew neck jumper by Next.   My shirt is dressed down in this picture but could also look very smart with a black pencil skirt and courts for work.

And here is the same shirt with a different outfit:

Tried, and it works!!

I whitened the tips of my nails with a mixture of 1 part hydrogen peroxide power 2.5 parts baking powder and a little water to mix to a paste.  Apply to finger and toe nails with a cotton bud and leave for a few minutes, rinse off and you will have very pretty nails – especially good for toe nails which have been discoloured by nail varnish.  Here they are:

I am not wearing any nail polish but could glam them up with a coat of clear nail varnish and hey presto….a very easy French manicure.

I have been busy in the kitchen making apple jam and home made bread.  I am also trying to incorporate more smoothies into my life and here is the perfect smoothie recipe I found on Pinterest and I am off to make one right now

Lauren Conrad's "7 Days to skinny Jeans" ... Oatmeal Smoothies Ingredients: 1 cup ice. 1/2 cup frozen raspberries or strawberries. 1/2 cup plain lowfat yogurt. 1 banana. 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats. 1 tablespoon honey.

I have just had my birthday, I am sure the years are becoming shorter!  My favourite present has to be my Chanel Coco Noir eau de toilette which smells wonderfully exotic and came in a beautiful glossy gift bag with a sequinned black flower and Chanel ribbon – just perfect.  The bottle is so Chanel its beautiful and here it is:

My favourite dress is this grey horse print dress by NW3 at House of Fraser, I am wearing it with my small heel black tassel brogues by Hobbs and woolly tights (Yes woolly tights in September) and an oversized woolly cardigan.

I have framed them in an old wooden frame and they stand religiously in front of an altered image of the Madonna.

Hello September …

1 Sep

I am clinging to the hope of an Indian Summer as the days are becoming noticeably shorter and I had to switch the heating on one night this week. The good news is I am off for a week in the sunshine. and because of my impending Summer holiday I have been trying to ignore the appearance of all the Autumn and Winter  clothes in the shops.  I am happy this week to have found a lovely pair of patterned trousers in H&M. They are so 60s I love them.  They are peach and cream and I am wearing them with a cotton and lace jumper from Oasis.  I have accessorised with a lovely Ted Baker patent handbag which I borrowed from my daughter.

Whilst having my picture taken a beautiful bumble bee landed on me and here it is:

and finally as I am going away on my holiday next week here is a picture of my lovely vintage suitcases which make a lovely storage option.

A Perfect Summer Skirt

26 Aug

I love all the denim shorts, and lacy crochet shorts but unfortunately being a women of a certain age I am of course unable to wear these, some things are just not acceptable at my age!   I also love all the maxi skirts and dresses but only being 5ft 5″ (which is a very average height)   I find all the maxi dresses are too long and are made for either very tall girls or for wearing with heels.    Unfortunately I am not a heel person I feel much more comfortable in a pair of ballet flats.  So finding the perfect Summer skirt has not been easy.  However I have succeeded.  I found this beautiful ditzy floral skirt on Not on the High Street.

I adore the fabric which is very reminiscent of the fabric my Mum used to make our summer dresses out of when we were children.     The length and cut of the skirt is flattering and practical and I love the pleat detail on the front of skirt.  The skirt is made by Kind Hearts Clothing  I am wearing it with a crew neck T-Shirt from Warehouse and a cotton cable knit cream cardigan by Mango.  My red ballet flats are from Clarks.

All dressed up and no place to go…….

“I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature, lace always evokes for me those incomparable designs which the branches and leaves of trees embroider across the sky, and I do not think that any invention of the human spirit could have a more graceful or precise origin”

Coco Chanel, 1939

I couldn’t agree more, I have a passion for lace the older the better, and I am accumulating quite a collection of lace dresses and feel that I really ought  to renew my marriage vows each year to justify the purchase of a  vintage lace dress!  However back to reality and I am not renewing my marriage vows this year or purchasing a vintage lace dress I have however found a lovely dress in the sale at Urban Outfitters which I adore.  The dress is a size 10 by Thistle Pearl, it is old fashioned cream lace and comes with an under slip .  The dress is quite loose fitting and midi length.  I wore the dress with snake print Mary Janes by Clarks and a lovely pale sage green scarf which was a present to me.

Here I am all dressed up and nowhere to go!!

……….and here are the shoes I should be wearing with this dress but even if I could afford them I think they are a little too high for me ( a dilemma I will never have to deal with!).   They are designed by Philip Treacy for Valentino and are the kind of shoes I own in my dreams…..
